Harborside Resort at Atlantis

Overlooking Nassau Harbour, the residential-style Harborside Resort at Atlantis is adjacent to Marina Village and offers easy access to Atlantis' new AQUAVENTURE, a waterscape of pools, waterslides, and rivers. The Slide Tower has four waterslides in a 120-foot tower: the Abyss (a 50-foot, near-vertical drop ending in an underground lair of prehistoric alligator gars), the Drop (which propels riders up the tower via water jets and then down through the Tower's dark

center), the Falls, and the Surge. AQUAVENTURE also houses a mile-long river ride and 11 rock climbing walls.

With a focus on conservation and education, Dolphin Cay offers interactions with 20 bottlenose dolphins in their own habitat. Guests can also observe more than 50,000 marine mammals at the Altantis' Marine Habitat, which includes underground tunnels surrounded by sharks, open-air lagoons, and passageways with stingrays and piranhas.

Balinese-inspired treatments are available in the two-story Mandara Spa's 35 treatment rooms. An outdoor marketplace, Marina Village, showcases local culture throughout its 20 shops. Additional recreational facilities include 11 lagoons; 13 swimming areas; the Dig, an underground maze of corridors and viewing tanks containing sea creatures; the Mayan Temple's five waterslides; Turtle Beach, a sanctuary for native turtles; an 8,000-square-foot casino; a two-story nightclub; Sports Center, complete with tennis courts; and plenty of watersports. The property's 20 restaurants and bars range from casual fare to gourmet dining with celebrity chefs Bobby Flay, Jean Georges Vongerichten, and Nobu Matsuhisa.

Harborside has one-, two-, and three-bedroom villas with kitchens or kitchenettes, jetted tubs, and entertainment centers with TVs and DVD/CD players or VCRs.

Caribbean Villas Hotel

Caribbean Villas is situated right on the beach on Ambergris Caye, Belize. There are only 12 rooms on these 2.5 acres of landscaped gardens, fronted by 250 feet of private beach and hiding the only bird sanctuary and people perch on the island. The bird sanctuary is one of the few remaining areas of original littoral forest, unchanged from the times the buccaneers buried their treasure here.

There is a 300-foot private dock from which you can snorkel over the artificial reef, lie in a hammock, or catch your tour boat to adventure. The tour boats will pick you up from the dock to take you snorkeling, diving, manatee watching, cave tubing, to the Mayan ruins, or to one of the many romantic waterside restaurants situated along the shore. Tours, golf cart rentals, and bicycle rentals, can be booked in advance or at the front desk after you arrive. Golf carts are restricted on the island so it's recommend you book in advance.

The villas are sufficiently far from town to preserve your peace and quiet, but a 10-minute barefoot walk along the beach will take you to San Pedro with its cobblestone streets, quaint shops, and many restaurants. All units are oceanfront, enjoying a beautiful view of the Caribbean. Units have ceiling fans and air-conditioning. For more family accommodation, some units can be joined using connecting doors. Ocean View Rooms have queen beds, private baths with showers, small sofas, small refrigerators/freezers, microwaves, coffeemakers, blenders, toasters, and dining room tables with chairs. Attached is a covered veranda. One Bedroom Suites, Garden Studios, and Lofted Suites have fully equipped kitchens.

The water heating is supplemented by rooftop solar panels. Irrigation is from rainwater catchment tanks. The rooms are designed to catch the cooling trade winds to reduce the need for air-conditioning.
